Tips for improving battery life

Stop syncing automatically with ‘push’

The best thing you can do to save battery life on your GoFone is to stop syncing all the time. Once youve connected your GoFone to your Google account, Facebook etc, all these apps regularly connect to the internet to get ‘push’ notifications and updates. This is a benefit because when you next check your Gmail, all your latest emails are already there. However, it has a massive effect on draining your battery (and can also use your 3G data allowance). By turning off sync you can extend your battery life, only at the expense of having to manually sync each time you want to check your Gmail or Facebook. In most apps this is a swipe downwards to refresh and only takes a jiffy!

The Power Control widget makes it easy to control features you aren’t currently using to extend your phone’s battery life.

If something’s on that you don’t think you need, turn it off to lengthen your battery’s charge. GPS and Sync are often the major culprits for excessive battery usage. If your toggle these off temporarily you might find you can dramatically increase your battery life.

Like all other widgets or apps, you can move the Power Control widget to any Home screen—just drag and drop it in the location of your choice.

To add the Power Control widget to one of your Home screens, follow these steps to add it:

  1. From your home screen tap the Menu button (bottom left corner of your GoFone)
  2. Tap the Widgets button
  3. Swipe through the widgets to find the Power Control, then touch & hold it. Drag it onto some free space on your home screen.

Check remaining battery life and usage

You can see how much battery you have left by looking at the battery level icon at the the top of your screen. To check the percentage of your remaining battery life, swipe down from the top of the screen. Touch the battery icon to go to the battery setting menu.

  1. Open your device’s Settings menu .
  2. Under “Device,” touch Battery.
  3. You can check the following settings:
    • Percent of battery life
    • Length of time your battery is estimated to last
    • Use and usages details since last full charge
  4. From this you can work out which apps are using all the battery. If theres an app you dont use regularly, but its using a lot of battery, then you can turn it off, uninstall it or stop it from syncing so often to save battery life.

Turn off Bluetooth

You can save battery life by turning off Bluetooth when you’re not using it by following these steps:

  1. Open the Settings menu  on your device.
  2. Under “Wireless & networks,” touch Bluetooth.
  3. Slide the switch to Off.

Make sure to turn Bluetooth back on by sliding the switch to On when you want to use a Bluetooth device.

Turn off GPS or Location Tracking

You can temporarily turn on battery saving location by following these steps:

  1. Open the Settings menu  on your device.
  2. Under “Personal,” touch Location.
  3. Touch Mode.
  4. Select Battery saving.

Make sure to change your Location setting back to one that uses GPS if you want to use apps that need to determine your location, like Google Maps.

Reduce Sleep Setting

Your sleep setting controls how long it takes for your GoFone’s screen to go black when you’re not using it. Setting a shorter time before your screen turns off can save you battery life by reducing drain when the screen is not in use.

  1. Open the Settings menu  on your device.
  2. Under “Device,” touch Display, then touch Sleep.
  3. Select 15 seconds or 30 seconds to save the most battery life.
